Lake Natron is a salt and soda lake in the Arusha Region of northern Tanzania.
This large and shallow (~3 meters) lake is fed by mineral-rich hot springs in Kenya.
Temperatures at the lake are frequently above 40 °C. The lake is very alkaline (pH>12), so only a few species live in the lake and the mud flats around it.
This unique lake is endangered by industry and tourism and listed as ecoregion by the WWF.
The surrounding area gets some irregular seasonal rainfall. In the neighborhood, you will find beautiful landscape and many Maasai people.
